Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR): Guide: Thesis Plan Instructions (UAS Master's degree)

Thesis Plan Instructions (UAS Master’s degree)

Write your thesis plan on the basis of your thesis idea presentation and your preparatory work. The thesis plan should be founded on your thesis idea presentation, forming a continuation to your earlier work. The purpose of the plan is to help you manage your thesis process.

Your plan should include the following issues but not necessarily in this order:

  • Indicate the topic, theme or research questions, and the objectives of the thesis.
  • Name the partners and the way they interface with your thesis work.
  • Give your general thoughts regarding the way you intend to carry out your thesis work (functional work, product, qualitative or quantitative or a combination of these).
  • Outline topics relevant for your thesis theoretically at the conceptual level in the light of earlier research.
  • Discuss the data you intend to use for your thesis (e.g. written documents, statistics and other materials currently available, data from interviews, surveys, observations, also photographs etc.).
  • Discuss the data acquisition and analysis methods you intend to use for your thesis. If you intend to include a functional section, explain the methods you wish to use for this functional work.
  • Discuss your data acquisition tool, which may be an interview outline, survey form, list of phenomena to be observed (observations outline) etc. In the case of a functional thesis as well, you may describe the tools, if any, that you will use. Typically, a thesis plan contains an interview outline or an observations outline.
  • Give the schedule, required resources and possible risks (if there are any that should be described).
  • Include the tentative table of contents.
  • Append a list of references (based on your literature review) containing your key literary sources.
  • State anything else that may be relevant for your topic.

Your thesis plan must have a title page, table of contents, at least ten pages of text, page numbers, list of references, and possible appendices (such as an interview outline).

Follow the instruction for written assigments. All thesis plans must follow Diak's general thesis instructions available at
